June 2021

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control invites you to think about adopting a pet. The shelter is currently at capacity and expects to bring in even more pets around the July 4 holiday. We need your help to free up kennel space. Consider adopting these loveable pets and mark your calendar for June 26–30 and July 7–11 when adoption fees will be reduced through a special event.

Let’s meet Lisa and Beastie Boy…

Lisa

Six-year-old Lisa (#A3728002) is an adventurous little lady who’s looking for a forever friend to explore the world with!

Lisa is already spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home with you as soon as today!

This athletic girl loves to spend time outside, although she will need her new human to supervise her — she has been a little too adventurous in the past for her own good and jumped a 6ft fence! Lisa is looking for a family who understands that she’s a little shy and is willing to give her the time and patience she needs to feel comfortable with them. She previously spent some time in a foster home, and they reported that she loves to go hiking, lie in the sun (when it’s not too hot!), and cuddle. They also learned that she’s already house trained and knows some basic obedience cues!

Visit maricopa.gov/214/adopt to find more information about Lisa (and other available shelter pets!) and reserve your appointment to adopt.

Lisa can be picky about her dog-friends and may do best around those that are more calm and willing to give her space when she needs it. She’ll need to meet any dogs she’ll be sharing a home with before you adopt, so you can see if they’ll be compatible pals. She can be a bit of a Nervous Nellie, so she’ll need everyone in her new family to be 12+ years old to help her avoid being startled or overwhelmed. Kind of weird that we have this information, but she was indifferent to a goat she lived with and able to coexist.

Visit maricopa.gov/214/adopt to find more information about Lisa (and other available shelter pets!) and reserve your appointment to adopt your new adventure co-pilot. Lisa is already spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home with you as soon as today!

Beastie Boy

Beastie Boy (#A4568423) would like a forever home!

This senior gentleman is tired of waiting around here at the shelter, he’s ready to skip right to the happily-ever-after part of things where he gets to lounge on the couch with his new human (he’s a gentle giant who weighs 110lbs, so we hope you have a large couch!). Not an overly demanding kind of dog, Beastie Boy is content with leisurely walks and has very nice leash manners. He has a mellow and loving personality, and loves nothing more than to sit with you and get as much petting as possible.

The nice lady who found Beastie Boy wandering around in her neighborhood reported that he seems like he’s already house trained and knows some basic obedience! This big guy can be overly dominant with other dogs and will need to be the only dog in his new home. We think he may be around eight years old, and due to his age and size, we would like to help him find a retirement home with no children.

He’s already house trained and knows some basic obedience!

Visit maricopa.gov/214/adopt to find more information about Beastie Boy (and other available shelter pets!) and to reserve your appointment to adopt your new best friend. Beastie Boy is already neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to go home with you as soon as today!

If you’re not looking for a permanent addition to your family, but can commit to caring for a pet in your home for a minimum of two weeks, we’d love to have you join our foster team! We currently have a need for foster homes for large dogs (40lbs+), and could use a few more for nursing mamas with their babies as well. Fill out your application at https://www.maricopa.gov/296/Foster, and a member of the alternate placement department will reach out to help you find your foster match.
