Maricopa County COVID-19 Update

The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and the general public. This is the update for January 4, 2021.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: PHASE 1A, DON’T DELAY!
To date, 55,444 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given to EMS and healthcare workers during Phase 1A of Maricopa County’s vaccination plan with thousands more scheduled appointments this week. We have extended the days of operation of some Point of Dispensing (POD) sites in order to continue providing first doses to interested and eligible healthcare workers. Some POD sites will pause operations this week to restock PPE and other equipment so that we can continue to protect healthcare workers who are supporting this effort. WHEN IS IT MY TURN?
We know a lot of you are wondering when the vaccine will be available to you.
For now, there is no sign-up or pre-screen available for phases beyond 1A. However, more information about the vaccine distribution process for populations prioritized in Phases 1B will be shared this week.
Prioritized populations for Phase 1B are adults age 75 and older, education and childcare workers, and law enforcement/protective services workers. Additional populations in 1B include other essential services workers and adults with high-risk conditions living in congregate settings.
SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE…
Just checking in after the holidays? Many of the COVID-19 trends we have been watching in recent weeks have continued. Among them, an increased burden on our hospital systems due to coronavirus patients. Data from Arizona Department of Health Services shows the following statewide metrics at or near all-time highs:
Number of COVID-19 hospital inpatients: 4,647
Number of COVID-19 patients in ICU beds: 1,082
Overall inpatient bed use: 92%
Overall ICU bed use: 93%
COVID-19 patients are taking up more hospital beds, with ADHS data showing 61% of ICU beds and 54% of inpatient beds statewide are being used by COVID-19 patients.

As our local schools begin the new semester, parents should check school websites and stay updated on information about mitigation efforts and learning scenario plans. Parents can also visit our FAQ page or contact Public Health directly.
MASK EFFECTIVENESS

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: FASE 1 A, NO LO DEJE PARA DESPÚES
Hasta la fecha, 55, 444 dosis de la vacuna COVID-19 se han dado a las personas que califican en la Fase 1 A del plan de vacunación del Condado Maricopa con miles de citas más previstas para esta semana. Hemos expandido los días de operación en algunos de los Puntos de Distribución para continuar proveyendo las primeras dosis de la vacuna a los trabajadores de la salud que califiquen. Algunos Puntos de Distribución pausaran sus actividades esta semana para volver abastecerse con el equipo de protección personal y otro equipo necesario para continuar con este esfuerzo masivo.

¿CUÁNDO SERÁ MI TURNO?
Sabemos que muchos se están preguntando cuando será mi turno. Por ahora no hay pre-registro disponible para otras fases que no sea la Fase 1 A. Sin embargo, más información sobre el proceso de distribución para otras poblaciones en la Fase 1B se dará a conocer esta semana.
Poblaciones que son prioridad en la Fase 1 B son adultos de 75 años o mayores, trabajadores del ámbito educativo, y cuidado de niños, agentes del orden, servicio de protección. Otros grupos adicionales incluye trabajadores y adultos que viven en ambientes de congregación de alto riesgo.

DESDE LA ÚLTIMA VEZ QUE NOS VIMOS…
Si estamos poniéndonos al día después de los días festivos, varias trayectorias que estamos vigilando continúan en la misma dirección. Entre ellas, el sobre cargo de pacientes en el sistema hospitalario con pacientes con coronavirus. Los datos más recientes del Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona (ADHS) muestran los siguientes puntos de referencia como nunca se habían registrado anteriormente.
Número de pacientes internados en los hospitales: 4,647
Número de pacientes en camas de Cuidados Intensivos: 1,082
El uso de camas en general: 92%
El uso de camas en Cuidado Intensivos: 93%
Los pacientes de COVID-19 son los que están usando los mayores recursos de camas en los hospitales, los datos de ADHS muestra que el 61% de las camas en cuidados intensivos y 54% de los pacientes internados a nivel estatal son pacientes con COVID-19.

A como arranca el nuevo semestre escolar, los padres deben revisar con sus escuelas y mantenerse informados sobre los esfuerzos de mitigación y el plan de aprendizaje para sus hijos. Los padres pueden visitar esta página de preguntas frecuentes o contactar a Salud Pública directamente.
¿HA ESTADO ENFERMO O EXPUESTO A COVID-19?
Si se siente enfermo no es fácil saber si es un resfriado, gripe o COVID-19 o algo más. Pudiera ser tentador durante estas fechas hacerse el valiente y continuar con su vida cotidiana y reuniéndose con personas. Le animamos a que busque maneras alternas de conectarse. Si usted se siente enfermo, es importante que se quede en casa alejado de otros para que no contagie a nadie más.
