TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: 2 THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT REDUCING SPREAD OF COVID-19
ARE MASK REGULATIONS MAKING A DIFFERENCE?
Maricopa County Public Health is starting to seeing positive signs suggest the countywide mask mandate is having a positive impact in reducing cases. We hope this is the beginning of a flattening of the curve, but it’s too soon to tell. Keep going and #MaskUpAZ.
CONTACT TRACING: BENEFITS AND LIMITATIONS
Contact tracing is the public health practice of reaching out to all close contacts of someone who has tested positive for a disease in order to notify them of their exposure, the importance of quarantine, and what steps they should take next. It works best when there are fewer cases and no community spread. What makes COVID-19 more challenging is the virus’s contagiousness, and because people can infect others with the virus before they begin to show symptoms and sometimes if they have no symptoms at all. With 1 in 4 tests coming back positive in our county, it is clear there is widespread transmission occurring.
Recent studies show for every one positive case reported to U.S. health departments, there are likely nine more cases that officials don’t know about. This makes contact tracing less effective in terms of disease control.
Bottom line: Even if you aren’t told you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, act as though you have been. The more of us who take consistent actions like wearing a mask in public, staying 6 feet apart, and avoiding gatherings, the more difficult we will make it for the virus to spread.

With the increased spread of COVID-19 in our community, Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine says it’s too early to determine whether in-person classes should resume in the fall.

There is momentum building in our community every day, as individuals, families, businesses, and other organizations try to do the right thing to slow the spread of COVID-19.
We want you to know that your sacrifice is seen and appreciated. Please, keep it up and continue to take preventive steps to reduce your risk of getting or spreading COVID-19. These include:
· Stay home when sick
· Maintain six feet of distance from others
· Wear cloth face coverings in public
· Wash hands or use hand sanitizer regularly
· Avoid gatherings of 10 or more people

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: LO QUE DEBE RECORDAR PARA REDUCIR LA PROPAGACIÓN DE COVID-19
¿ACASO EL REGULAR EL USO DE LAS MASCARILLAS ESTÁ HACIENDO LA DIFERENCIA?
Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa ha empezado a ver señales positivas que sugieren que el uso requerido de la mascarilla está teniendo un impacto positivo en reducir el número de casos.
DAR SEGUIMIENTO: LOS BENEFICIOS Y LAS LIMITACIONES
El dar seguimiento a los contactos cercanos de una persona infectada es una práctica de Salud Pública para notificar a las personas que estuvieron expuestos, la importancia de guardar cuarentena y decirles que pasos deben tomar. El dar seguimiento a los casos funciona mejor cuando se tienen menos casos en la comunidad. Lo que hace de COVID-19 aún más difícil de controla es lo fácil que es de contagiar a otros, porque hay personas que no presentan síntomas y pudieran estar infectando a otros sin saberlo. Con 1 de cada 4 pruebas que regresan positivas en nuestro condado, es claro que la transmisión de este virus está por todo el condado.
Estudios recientes muestran que por cada caso positivo reportado a los departamentos de Salud Pública en Estados Unidos, hay diez casos más que los departamentos desconocen. Esto hace el dar seguimiento a los casos menos efectivo en términos de control de enfermedad.
Así que lo importante a recordar: aun si a usted no se le ha dicho que ha estado expuesto a alguien con COVID-19, actué como si lo hubiera estado. Entre más personas tomen acciones consistentes con el uso de la mascarilla en público, mantenerse a 6 pies de distancia de otros, y evitar las reuniones, será más difícil propagar el virus.
¿ACASO ES SEGURO REGRESAR A CLASES?
Con el incremento de casos de COVID-19 en nuestra comunidad, Salud Pública dice que es muy temprano para determinar si las clases en persona deben iniciar este otoño.

Ahora más que nunca existe el deseo de apoyarnos unos a otros en la comunidad, como individuos, familias, negocios, y otras organizaciones están tratando de hacer lo correcto para evitar propagar COVID-19. Queremos que sepa que vemos su sacrificio y se aprecia. Por favor, continúe tomando pasos de prevención para reducir el riesgo de propagación de COVID-19. Esto incluye:
· Quédese en casa si está enfermo
· Manténgase a seis pies de distancia de otros
· Use una mascarilla de tela en público
· Lávese las manos o use el desinfectante de manos
· Evite reuniones de 10 o más personas
