The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and the general public. This is the update for July 28, 2020.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO CONTRACT COVID-19. THE MOST LIKELY IS THROUGH DROPLETS.
COVID-19 spreads mainly from person-to-person when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks and droplets land in the mouth or nose of others nearby. This is the reason we advise keeping six feet of distance and wearing masks.

CAN I GET COVID-19 FROM TOUCHING AN INFECTED SURFACE?
Yes, it’s possible a person could get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes, but it’s not as likely as person-to-person spread. Studies have found that COVID-19 tends to live longer on harder surfaces such as plastic, glass, and metal.
Again, it’s possible to get COVID-19 from surfaces, however, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
CAN CLEANING SURFACES HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19?
Cleaning does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection. Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces. If a surface may have gotten the virus on it from a person with or suspected to have COVID-19, the surface should be cleaned and disinfected.

ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19 DIFFERENT IN CHILDREN THAN IN ADULTS?
No. The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. The virus affects people differently. Often, people get a fever, cough, or have a hard time taking deep breaths. Most people who have gotten COVID-19 are able to recover at home with plenty of rest and fluids. Children tend to have to more mild illness.

Tomorrow (July 29) is the deadline to mail in your ballot for the August Primary Election. If you miss the deadline, you can still drop your ballot off between now and August 4 at any Vote Center or secure drop box across Maricopa County. Safety measures are in place at all voting sites. MENSAJE DEL DĺA: EXISTEN MUCHAS MANERAS DE CONTRAER COVID-19. PERO PRINCIPALMENTE SE TRANSMITE POR LAS GOTITAS RESPIRATORIAS QUE DESECHA UNA PERSONA.
COVID-19 se propaga de persona a persona cuando una persona infectada toce, estornuda, o habla y las gotitas caen en la boca o nariz de los que están cerca. Esta es la razón por la que les aconsejamos que permanezcan al menos seis pies de distancia de otros y use una mascarilla.
¿ME PUDIERA INFECTAR CON COVID-19 POR TOCAR SUPERFICIES INFECTADAS?
Sí, es posible que una persona pudiera infectarse con COVID-19 por tocar superficies u objetos que pudieran tener el virus y luego tocarse la boca, nariz y ojos, pero es más fácil contagiarse de persona a persona. Estudios muestran que COVID-19 tiende a vivir más tiempo en superficies duras como plástico, cristal y metal.
Es posible contagiarse con COVID-19 por tocar superficies infectadas, sin embargo, esto no se cree es el principal método de transmisión.
¿ACASO LAS SUPERFICIES LIMPIAS PUEDEN PREVENIR LA PROPAGACIÓN DE COVID-19?
El limpiar no mata los gérmenes pero al quitarlos, disminuye los números y el riesgo de propagar infección. ¿SON LOS SINTOMAS DE COVID-19 DIFERENTE EN LOS NIÑOS Y LOS ADULTOS?
No, los síntomas de COVID-19 son similares en los niños y adultos. El virus afecta a las personas de diferentes maneras. Por lo regular, las personas sienten fiebre, tos, y se les dificulta respirar. La mayoría de las personas con COVID-19 se pueden recuperar en casa tomando suficientes líquidos y descanso. Los niños tienden a tener una enfermedad menos severa.

Elecciones y Oficina de Registro
Mañana (29 de julio) es la fecha límite para enviar su boleta por correo para la Elección Primaria de agosto. Si se le pasa la fecha límite, aún puede entregar su boleta entre ahora y el 4 de agosto en cualquier Centro de Votación o buzón electoral seguro en todo el Condado Maricopa. Distrito de Control de Inundaciones
Esta época de monson, el Distrito del Control de Inundaciones del Condado Maricopa les recuerda que evite comportamientos que no son seguros durante inundaciones. Eso quiere decir no manejar en calles inundadas o alrededor de las barreras y no jugar en áreas inundadas.
CENSO 2020
Que no se le pase la oportunidad de hacer que se escuche su voz y que su comunidad este más fuerte. Participe en el Censo 2020. Es un deber cívico, y así es como Arizona recibe lo que le corresponde en fondos federales para la infraestructura, respuesta de emergencia y servicios comunitarios.
