TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR SHOT
We have a shot to ease the burden on our healthcare system and keep people out of the hospital this flu season, but it’s going to take a community effort. Maricopa County residents banded together against COVID-19 by practicing social distancing, mask-wearing, and good hygiene. Now, let’s make a similar commitment to getting our flu shots. Public Health has free events and services to help (see below). The more of us who get vaccinated, the healthier our community will be.

3 OPTIONS TO GET THE FLU VACCINE
Getting the flu vaccine now makes it less likely you’ll get the flu this fall and winter, which is not just good for you and your family, it’s also good for our community. Public Health wants to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get a flu shot this year. Here are three options:
- Children 6 months through 18 years of age can receive free flu shots at one of our immunization clinics on weekdays (Monday-Friday) by making an appointment.
- If you have insurance, check with your health care provider or find a flu shot clinic near you using Vaccine Finder.
- If you are uninsured or underinsured, visit Maricopa.gov/flu to find a community event where adults and children can receive a FREE flu shot. These free events are open to everyone in the community, including those with insurance. There are three events tomorrow and more throughout October!
3 WAYS TO GET FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM MARICOPA COUNTY
The pandemic has taken a serious financial and emotional toll on many of us. Maricopa County is here to help. The Board of Supervisors has approved significant funding for programs to help individuals and businesses bounce back. These include:
Rental assistance: Households can receive rental assistance payments for past due or owed rent for the months of March 2020 — December 2020. More than 1,700 households have received assistance to date with more than $5 million in rent payments distributed so far.
Utility assistance: Households can receive up to $1,000 to help cover electric and gas bills.
Business and non-profit grants: Grants up to $25,000 are available to small businesses and non-profits experiencing financial hardship during the pandemic. More than $20 million in grants have been awarded to date.
NEED MASKS FOR SCHOOL?
The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) is offering washable, reusable cloth face masks to students, their parents, school staff members, or anyone else who may not be able to purchase a mask. You can place an order through ADHS and get five reusable masks. Orders are limited to one per household.
SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH
September is Suicide Prevention Month, but the work of caring for one another and managing our mental health continues all year. During this time of heightened stress, Public Health has resources to support you, whether you want to know what warning signs to watch for, or you need someone to talk with at this moment.

Early ballots for the November General Election will be mailed a week from today! October 7 is also when vote centers will open for folks who want to cast their ballot in-person. If you haven’t registered to vote, or are unsure of your registration status, you still have time. The registration deadline is October 5.
2020 CENSUS
Time is running out to complete your 2020 Census. The census is the official count of how many people live in our community and it determines how much federal funding we’ll receive for key projects over the next decade. Completing the Census is easy, secure, and important. It should take only about 10 minutes of your time. Will you help?

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: APROVECHE LA VACUNA
Tenemos una oportunidad de disminuir la carga a nuestro sistema de salud y mantener a las personas fuera de los hospitales por la gripe pero va a tomar un esfuerzo comunitario. 3 OPCIONES PARA PONERNOS LA VACUNA CONTRA LA GRIPE
El ponerse la vacuna contra la gripe ahora disminuye el riesgo de enfermarse contra la gripe este otoño e invierno, que no solo es bueno para usted sino para su familia y para la comunidad. Salud Pública quiere que sea lo más fácil posible para todos vacunarse contra la gripe este año. Aquí tiene tres opciones:
- Niños de 6 meses a 18 años pueden recibir la vacuna contra la gripe en una de las clínicas de vacunación de Salud Pública de lunes a viernes solo tiene que hacer una cita 602 506–6767.
- Si tiene seguro médico, busque un sitio de vacunación en Vaccine Finder
- Si no tiene seguro médico o no le cubre su seguro visite www.Maricopa.gov/flu para encontrar sitios gratis en su comunidad incluyendo entre semana y fines de semana.
3 FORMAS DE OBTENER ASISTENCIA FINANCIERA DEL CONDADO MARICOPA
La pandemia ha sido devastadora emocionalmente como financieramente para muchos de nosotros. El Condado Maricopa está aquí para ayudarle. La Junta de Supervisores ha aprobado programa de financiamiento para ayudar a personas y negocios a volver a levantarse. Esto incluye:
Asistencia de Renta: Hogares pudieran recibir pagos de asistencia de renta ya sea desde marzo 2020 a diciembre 2020. Más de 1,700 hogares han recibido asistencia hasta la fecha con más de $5 millones de pagos en renta que ya se han distribuido.

El Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona (ADHS) esta ofreciendo mascarillas para estudiantes, padres de familia y miembros de personal docente o quien sea que no pueda comprarlas. Estas mascarillas son reusables. Usted puede solicitarlas en el sitio web de ADHS y le darán 5 mascarillas. Las ordenes son limitadas a una por hogar.
MES DE PREVENCIÓN DEL SUICIDIO
Septiembre es el Mes de Prevención del Suicidio, pero el trabajo de cuidar nuestra salud mental de unos a otros es de todo el año. AGENCIAS DEL CONDADO A SU SERVICIO
La boletas tempranas para la Elección General de noviembre se enviaran en una semana a partir de hoy. El 7 de octubre también es cuando los centros de votación abrirán sus puertas para quienes quieran votar en persona. Si aún no se registra para votar, o no está seguro si está registrado, aún tiene tiempo. La fecha limite es el 5 de octubre.
CENSO 2020
Se acaba el tiempo para participar en el censo 2020. El censo es un conteo oficial de cuanta gente vive en nuestra comunidad y determina cuantos fondos federales recibirá Arizona para proyectos claves en la próxima década. Haga el Censo, es fácil, seguro e importante. Solo le tomará 10 minutos de su tiempo. ¿Lo hará?
