TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: STATE PROVIDES SCHOOL GUIDANCE FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING
The Arizona Department of Health Services offers recommendations for data-driven decisions on when to open schools in the Safely Returning to In-Person Instruction guide. Benchmark data can be found displayed on their website.
GENERAL STATE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SCHOOLS REOPENING
The Arizona Department of Health Services has provided schools and childcare facilities with general protocol recommendations. Some of these include:
· Symptom screening for all individuals entering the establishment (children, staff, and families).
· Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet between individuals who are not part of the same household, as feasible.
· Increase handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or increase use of hand sanitizer, containing at least 60% alcohol, if appropriate.
· Use of cloth face coverings, as appropriate.
· Stagger times for drop-off, pick-up, recreation, and hallway use to avoid crowded areas.
· Prevent mixing of classrooms.
· Non-congregate meal and/or snack times.
· Frequent cleaning and disinfection, especially of high touch surfaces.
UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health has developed a tool for schools and parents to understand ways to lower the risk of COVID-19 infection when returning to school.
WHAT IS CAUSING EXCESS MORTALITY IN MARICOPA COUNTY?
At a news conference earlier this week, Dr. Sunenshine from the Department of Public Health provided clarification on how excess mortality in Maricopa County can directly or indirectly be related to COVID-19.

AM I CONSIDERED A CLOSE CONTACT EVEN IF I WAS WEARING A FACE COVERING?
Yes, if you were within 6 feet of someone who was infectious with COVID-19 for more than 10 minutes, you are considered a close contact — mask or no mask. While cloth face coverings do provide protection to the person wearing the mask, it is not as good as staying at least 6 feet away. Cloth face coverings are more efficient at reducing spread from the person wearing the mask.
IS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SAFE?
You’re safer at home, but if you do need to get around town, there are some things you should know about rideshares, taxis, and other common forms of transportation.
TRAVELING OVERNIGHT
Planning a trip that includes a hotel stay? The CDC offers these tips:
· Use options for online reservation and check-in, mobile room key, and contactless payment.
· Before you go, call and ask if all staff are wearing cloth face coverings at work.
· Look for any extra prevention practices being implemented by the hotel, such as plexiglass barriers at check-in counters, and physical distancing signs in the lobby.
· Ask if the hotel has updated policies about cleaning and disinfecting or removing frequently touched surfaces and items (such as pens, room keys, tables, phones, doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons, water fountains, ATMs/card payment stations, business center computers and printers, ice/vending machines, and remote controls).

Elections and Recorder’s Office
More than 850,000 voters participated in the August Primary Election! That’s a record! In 2018, participation was under 700,000 and in 2016, it was under 600,000.
Today, results were audited in a hand count by 3-member citizen boards. The county’s Republican, Democratic, and Libertarian chairs appoint the boards. The audit found that there is a 100% match between tabulated results and paper ballots.
The hand count audit is just one check on the elections process to ensure the integrity and security of the election is upheld!

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: EL ESTADO PROVEE GUĺA A LAS ESCUELAS PARA CUANDO REANUDEN LAS CLASES EN PERSONA
El Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona ofrece recomendaciones basadas en las cifras y datos para que las escuelas sepan cuando pueden reabrir sus planteles para clases en persona de forma segura. Esa guía aparece en su página. (Inglés) más datos.
RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES DEL ESTADO PARA LA REAPERTURA DE ESCUELAS
El Departemtno de Servicios de Salud de Arizona ha proveído a las escuelas e instalaciones de cuidado infantil con las recomendaciones generales. Algunas de esas incluyen:
- Verificar los síntomas de todos las personas que ingresen a los planteles (niños, personal y familias)
- Mantener el distanciamiento físico de al menos 6 pies de distancia de otros que no sean de la misma familia.
- Incrementar el lavado de manos con agua y jabón por al menos 20 segundos o incrementar el uso de desinfectantes de manos, que contenga la menos 60% de alcohol.
- Uso de la mascarilla, a como sea apropiado.
- Programar diferentes horarios para la entrada y salida, recreación y cambios de clases para evitar áreas concurridas.
- Prevenir el mezclar clases.
- No brindar alimentos en grupos grandes/meriendas.
- Limpiar y desinfectar frecuentemente especialmente áreas de alto uso.

El Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa ha desarrollado un documento como guía para ayudar a las escuelas y padres de familia a entender los riesgos cuando decidan regresar a la escuela.

En conferencia de prensa de esta semana, Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa aclaró como es que el índice de mortalidad está relacionado directamente o indirectamente a COVID-19.
OBTENGA EL CUIDADO MÉDICO QUE USTED NECESITA
Las salas de emergencia son seguras, y si usted tiene una emergencia, debe acudir. Conozca las señales de un ataque al corazón o derrame cerebral. Esto le podría salvar la vida.
¿ME PUEDO CONSIDERAR UN CONTACTO CERCANO SI ESTABA USANDO UNA MASCARILLA?
Si, usted todavía se considera contacto cercano aun cuando usa una mascarilla si está cerca a alguien con COVID-19. Las mascarillas previenen que alguien trasmita la enfermedad a otros, pero no protege completamente que la persona se infecte.
¿EL USO DEL TRANSPORTE PÚBLICO ES SEGURO?
Usted está más seguro en casa, pero si usted necesita moverse, debe saber las formas comunes de compartir transporte, taxis, y otras formas de transportación.
PIENSA VIAJAR Y PASAR LA NOCHE FUERA DE CASA
Si usted está planeando un viaje y se va a quedar en un hotel, aquí algunos consejos de CDC:
· Utilice las opciones de hacer reservaciones y checar en línea, tener una llave a la mano y pagar sin tener que estar en contacto con alguien más.
· Antes de llegar llame y pregunte si el personal está usando una mascarilla en el trabajo.
· Pregunte sobre otras medidas de prevención que este implementado el hotel como poner las barreras divisorias transparente en la recepción, señalamientos de distanciamiento físico en el lobby.
· Pregunte si el hotel tiene políticas de limpieza y de desinfección vigentes o han quitado los objetos que frecuentemente son usados por las personas (plumas, llaves, mesas, teléfonos, manijas, enchufes, botones de los elevadores, fuentes de agua, estaciones de pago por tarjeta, computadoras e impresoras, máquinas de vender hielo o productos, y controles remotos).

Estos son tiempos estresantes. No esconda sus emociones, aun cuando alguien pueda estar en peor situación que la de usted. Existen ayuda mental y recursos de bienestar llamando al 2–1–1. Y debe considerar estas recomendaciones de CDC:
· Tome descansos de las pantallas
· Cuide su cuerpo
· Haga actividades que usted disfrute
· Conéctese con otros (a la distancia)

A pesar de la pandemia COVID-19, el Departamento de Planeación y Desarrollo ha visto un incremento en la demanda de permisos de construcción. Muchas de esas solicitudes se han hecho en línea.
Elecciones y Oficina de Registro
¡Más de 850,000 votantes participaron en la Elección Primaria de agosto! ¡Eso es un récord! En 2018, la participación fue inferior a 700,000 y en 2016, fue inferior a 600,000. Hoy, los resultados fueron auditados en un recuento manual por las juntas de ciudadanos de 3 miembros en cada uno.
Los Directores Republicanos, Demócratas y Libertarios del Condado designaron a las juntas de ciudadanos.
La auditoría encontró que hay una coincidencia del 100% entre los resultados tabulados y las boletas de papel. ¡La auditoría del recuento manual es sólo una verificación del proceso electoral para asegurar que se mantenga la integridad y seguridad de la elección.
