The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and general public. This is the update for April 14, 2020.

TESTING UPDATE
Numbers from Arizona Department of Health Services show a substantial increase in COVID-19 testing over the past month. 44,096 tests were performed in the week leading up to April 12 compared with less than 10,000 per week in early March. The majority of the tests were for those ages 20–44. Overall, 92% of tests over the past week came back negative.
TESTING IN COUNTY JAILS
To date, there are no positive cases of COVID-19 among inmates or staff in the county jail system. Correctional Health Services has tested several inmates and assured the public that there is sufficient testing should people display symptoms.
SCAM ALERT
It’s tempting to chase the promise of a cure to COVID-19. Public Health wants to remind everyone, though, the FDA has not authorized any home testing kit, cures or treatments for COVID-19. We encourage you to spread facts not fear, and report any attempted scam or fraud to the National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866–720–5721 or disaster@leo.gov.

The county administration building at 301 W. Jefferson Street is now lit blue at night in support of health care workers, public health professionals, and first responders. We are grateful for their service, sacrifice, and expertise during these challenging times.

ACTUALIZACION DE PRUEBAS
Los números del Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona muestran un incremento sustancial de casos de COVID-19 en el último mes. 44,096 pruebas se realizaron en la semana antes del 12 de abril comparado a menos de 10,000 por semana a principios de marzo. La mayoría de las pruebas fueron entre personas de las edades de 20 a 44 años. La mayoría de las pruebas, un 92%, resultaron negativas.

PRUEBAS EN LAS CÁRCELES DEL CONDADO
Hasta la fecha no existe casos positivos de COVID-19 entre los reos o personal de las cárceles del condado. Servicios de salud correccionales han realizado pruebas a prisioneros y aseguran tener suficientes pruebas para quienes presenten síntomas.
ALERTA DE FRAUDE
Es tentador creer en la promesa de una cura para COVID-19 pero Salud Pública le recuerda a todos que la Administración de Medicamentos y Alimentos (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés) no ha autorizado ninguna prueba cacera, ni tratamientos o curas para el COVID-19. Le invitamos a que comparta los hechos y no propaguemos el temor, y reporte cualquier intento de abuso o fraude a la línea Nacional de Fraude de Enfermedades al 866–720–5721 o disaster@leo.gov.
