The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and general public. This is the update for September 18, 2020.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FREE ANTIBODY TESTING
This weekend, there’s a big opportunity for residents in 29 selected communities to find out their COVID-19 status. Maricopa County is partnering with ASU and Mayo Clinic to offer free, voluntary COVID-19 antibody tests in these neighborhoods. Field teams will be out knocking on doors on Saturday and Sunday, and if you’re interested, you’ll have the option to get tested outside of your home by public health staff who are wearing full personal protective wear. The entire process will only take about 20 minutes. By participating in this serosurvey, you will help Public Health understand when and how we could reach community immunity and relax mitigation strategies like social distancing and mask wearing.

WHAT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WILL BE TAKEN DURING THE SEROSURVEY?
Public Health wants people to feel comfortable in getting tested. Here are five things we are doing to protect you, your family, and your personal information:
1. Our team will follow COVID-19 safety protocols.
2. All health information will be kept confidential, and participants will be notified about their results by Public Health
3. Public Health will not share test results with anyone outside of public health.
4. Participation will occur in a tent outside the person’s home or in a mobile clinic; volunteers will not ask to enter participants’ homes.
5. All blood samples will be held confidentially by public health and then destroyed after the test is run along with all identifying information.
UNEMPLOYMENT HELP
Arizona’s unemployment rate is improving, but there are also tens of thousands of people who have dropped out of the workforce because they’ve stopped looking for jobs.
It can be difficult to know what to do next when you’re out of work and not getting interviews or calls back.
While no one entity can solve this challenge, the Maricopa County Human Services Department does offer job assistance through our career centers. You can get these services from the comfort of your home or in-person, by appointment. Get started here.

MORTGAGE AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE
If you are struggling financially because of COVID-19, one of the most pressing issues may be how to pay your mortgage or rent. There is help available.
The Arizona Department of Housing has compiled a list of resources for homeowners who need help with their mortgage payments.
Maricopa County’s COVID Crisis Rental Assistance Program has helped more than 1,000 households pay their rent over the past two months. Our program is designed to speed along the process so that people get checks in the mail faster. Applicants will need to submit:
- Evidence of financial hardship due to COVID-19
- Applicant photo
- Lease agreement
- Total household income

WHAT TO DO IF YOU DON’T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE
According to U.S. Census data, more than 820,000 Arizonans had no health insurance at some point in 2019, an increase of nearly 64,000 from the prior year. And that was before the pandemic. If you are uninsured, you can apply for coverage through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) or find a health care provider who will work with you through the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: SE BUSCAN VOLUNTARIOS PARA LAS PRUEBAS DE ANTICUERPOS DE COVID-19
Este fin de semana, 29 comunidades tendrán una oportunidad de saber si en algún momento estuvo contagiado con COVID-19. Salud Publica del Condado Maricopa se está asociando con la Universidad Estatal de Arizona (ASU) y la Clínica Mayo para ofrecer la prueba gratis en estas comunidades. Los equipos estarán tocando las puertas el sábado y domingo, si usted está interesado tendrá la opción de hacerse la prueba afuera de su casa por un miembro del personal de salud pública que usaran el equipo de protección personal. Este proceso solo tomara 20 minutos. Al participar en esta encuesta de anticuerpos, usted ayudara a la salud pública para entender cuándo y cómo podemos alcanzar inmunidad comunitaria y relajar las estrategias de mitigación como el distanciamiento social y el uso de mascarillas.

AYUDA POR DESEMPLEO

Puede ser difícil saber qué hacer cuando estamos sin empleo.
El Departamento de Servicios Humanos del Condado Maricopa está ofreciendo asistencia de empleos a través del centro de carreras. Usted puede obtener servicios desde su hogar o en persona con cita.

Si usted esta batallando financieramente por COVID-19, una de las áreas de más presión es saber como pagar la casa o renta. Existe ayuda disponible.
El Departamento de Vivienda de Arizona ha recopilado una lista de recursos para los dueños que necesitan pagar la mensualidad.
El programa de asistencia de renta por la crisis de COVID-19 en el Condado Maricopa ha ayudado a mas de 1,000 hogares a pagar su renta en los últimos dos meses. Nuestro programa está diseñado bajo el proceso mas sencillo y para que usted reciba su cheque pronto. Usted necesitará

QUE SUCEDE SI NO TIENE SEGURO DE SALUD
