TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: WHAT INDIVIDUALS CAN DO

From the beginning of the pandemic, a top priority of public health officials and policymakers has been ensuring that our health care system does not become overwhelmed. Rising COVID-19 cases, the coming peak of flu season, and the increased social interactions that tend to happen around the holidays have many medical professionals concerned about the weeks ahead. Our hospitals are getting fuller.

As individuals, some things are out of our control. However, we can make a commitment to a cause bigger than ourselves. Taking proven, preventive measureseven if they’re inconvenient, even if we don’t feel sick, even if we see others making different choices — will make our community healthier and give our loved ones more protection.

There are safe ways to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends this year. Arizona Department of Health Services has put together a “holiday menu” that outlines your options, which includes recommendations for where to gather and what to avoid.

A VACCINE’S ROLE IN ENDING THE PANDEMIC

Wearing masks, social distancing, and other mitigation measures help reduce your chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others. Vaccines are another important tool because they work with your immune system so it will be ready to fight the virus if you are exposed. The combination of people getting vaccinated, once one is available, and each of us following CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself and others will help our community slow the spread of COVID-19.

I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT COVID-19 VACCINES

Some people have questions about the safety of a COVID-19 vaccine, once it’s available. Others do not feel it’s necessary. If you are a skeptic, we invite you to learn more about the ways in which vaccines have been safely used to protect people from disease for generations.

MEDICALLY-CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Public Health’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is recruiting volunteers to assist with the administration of a future COVID-19 vaccine. If you are medically certified to provide routine vaccinations (RN, MD, EMT, Paramedic, etc…) with a current license in good standing and would like to assist in this great community effort, please register to volunteer here: GetInvolvedMaricopa.org.

Free COVID-19 tests

If you’re experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone who is COVID-19 positive, you can find a place to get tested by visiting Maricopa.gov/COVID19Testing. We have a list of community events where you can get a diagnostic test for free, as well as links to other options through Arizona Department of Health Services or private partners.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: ESTO ES MUCHO MÁS GRANDE QUE CUALQUIER INDIVIDUO

Desde el principio de la pandemia, una de las prioridades de los oficiales de salud pública y los que hacen leyes ha sido asegurar que nuestro sistema de salud no se abrume. Con el aumento de casos de COVID-19, y ahora que llega la epoca pico de gripe, y con el aumento de interacciones sociales que suelen suceder durante los días festivos, muchos profesionales de la salud estan preocupados por lo que pudiera venir en las próximas semanas. Nuestros hospitales se están llenando.

EL ROL DE LA VACUNA PARA TERMINAR CON LA PANDEMIA

El uso de las mascarillas, distanciamiento social, y otras medidas de mitigación ayudan a reducir la posibilidad de estar expuestos al virus o propagarlo a otros. Las vacunas son importantes porque funcionan con el sistema inmune para que combata al virus si alguien llegará a estar expuesto. La combinación de la vacuna y las recomendaciones de CDC para protegerse usted y los demás ayudaran a la comunidad a disminuir la propagación de COVID-19.
