WHAT ARE THE LONG-TERM IMPACTS OF COVID?
We know that most people recover from COVID-19, but we don’t fully understand how the virus might impact them in the long-term. A report from the CDC earlier this summer suggests that some people — including those with mild illness — experience symptoms of COVID-19 for several weeks after their diagnosis. 35% of those surveyed by the agency said they still weren’t back to their usual good health two to three weeks after testing positive for the disease. Older adult and people with chronic health conditions tend to have longer-lasting symptoms, but even among young adults (aged 18–34), 20% had not returned to normal health two to three weeks after testing positive for COVID-19.
The best way to avoid getting the virus is to limit your exposure by staying home when possible, keeping six feet of distance from others in public, and wearing a well-fitted mask when away from home, when around others who do not live with you, and when you can’t maintain physical distance.

3 STEPS TO KNOWING YOUR COVID-19 STATUS
Maricopa County Public Health has made it easy for people who think they may have COVID-19 to get the information they need.
Coronavirus symptom checker: Enter your symptoms and some basic information about yourself and find out whether you should get tested for COVID-19.
Find a testing site: We’ve compiled a list of county-sponsored testing events as well as testing locations supported by Arizona Department of Health Services.

CONTACT TRACING
If you test positive for COVID-19, you will get a call or text from Maricopa County Public Health. Each case is contacted at least three times using a combination of the following methods:
- automated phone call
- human phone call
- two text messages
- and standard mail

HOW GETTING YOUR FLU SHOT WILL HELP HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS
This fall and winter, getting a flu vaccine will be more important than ever since hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices are likely to be busy caring for people with severe symptoms of flu or COVID-19. Getting a flu vaccine will:
- help keep you and your loved ones out of the medical setting, and
- help save scarce medical resources to care for those with severe symptoms of either flu or COVID-19.
A flu vaccine also helps protect the frontline health care workers who will be caring for people sick with respiratory illnesses this fall and winter. Public Health is offering free flu shots for anyone 6 months through 18 years of age at its immunization clinics. Please call ahead to ensure vaccine is available and then make an appointment.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
This year has reminded all of us of the value of being prepared for the unexpected. With that mind, the Department Emergency Management wants to hear from you! Our annual Community Preparedness Survey is available in English and Spanish from now through September 30, 2020. There are 13 questions in this survey, and it should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. Help us gauge resident preparedness and improve our emergency messaging!
PARKS
Beginning October 1, Maricopa County’s Parks and Recreation Department will bring back the popular Buy One, Get One camping promotion! The promotion allows park visitors who pay the camping fee for one night, or more, at a desert mountain county park to receive one night of equal or lesser value for free during that same stay.
2020 CENSUS
Don’t forget to complete your 2020 Census. It’s easy, secure, and important. An accurate count means Arizona will receive its fair share of federal funding for infrastructure, emergency response, and community services. Will you help?

¿CUALES SON LOS IMPACTOS DE LARGO PLAZO DE COVID-19?
Sabemos que la mayoría de la gente se recupera de COVID-19 pero aún no entendemos completamente cuales son los impactos del virus a largo plazo. Un reporte de CDC a principios de verano sugirió que algunas personas incluyendo los que presentan enfermedad leve, experimentan síntomas de COVID-19 aun por semanas de ser diagnosticados. 35% de los que hicieron la encuesta por la agencia dijeron que después de 2–3 semanas de haber dado positivo aun no estaban en buena salud como antes de haber contraído el virus. Los adultos de edad avanzada con condiciones crónicas tienden a tener síntomas que perduran aún más tiempo, pero aun entre los jóvenes adultos (18 a 34 años), 20% no han regresado a su salud normal dos a tres semanas después de haber dado positivo a COVID-19.
La mejor manera de evitar contraer el virus es limitando estar expuestos quedándose en casa lo más que se pueda, manteniendo seis pies de distancia de otros mientras esta en público, y usar una mascarilla cuando este en áreas públicas cerradas y no pueda mantener el distanciamiento físico.

PONERSE LA VACUNA DE LA GRIPE AYUDA A LOS TRABAJADORES DEL CUIDADO DE LA SALUD
Este otoño e invierno, ponerse la vacuna contra la gripe será más importante que nunca ya que los hospitales, clínicas, y doctores estarán ocupados con pacientes por COVID-19. El ponerse la vacuna contra la gripe le ayudará a:
· Manterlo a usted y sus seres queridos fuera de hospitales
· A no usar recursos médicos que pueden ser para pacientes con COVID-19
La vacuna contra la gripe ayuda a proteger a los trabajadores de la salud que están luchando por los pacientes con enfermedades respiratorias este otoño e invierno. Salud Pública está ofreciendo la vacuna para niños de 6 meses a 18 años en sus clínicas de vacunación. Por favor llame por adelantado para ver si tienen la vacuna y hacer su cita al 602-506-6767.

Administración de Emergencias
Este año se les recuerda el valor que tiene el estar preparados para lo inesperado. Con eso en mente, el Departamento de Administración de Emergencias desea escuchar su opinión con nuestra encuesta de preparación en la comunidad que está disponible en inglés y español desde ahora hasta el 30 de septiembre, 2020. Son 13 preguntas y no debe tomarle más de 5 minutos para hacerla. Ayúdenos a entender que tan preparada esta la comunidad y a mejorar el mensaje de emergencias.
Parques
Empezando el 1 de octubre, el Departamento de Parques y Recreación del Condado Maricopa esta de regreso por demanda popular ¡Campaña de Campamento de Compre Uno y Obtenga Uno! Esta promoción permite que los visitantes al parque de campamento que pagan una noche o más en Desert Mountain County Park recibirán una noche de igual o menor precio gratis durante esa misma estadía.
CENSO 2020
Se acaba el tiempo para participar en el Censo 2020. Es su deber cívico, y además así es como Arizona recibe lo que le corresponde en fondos federales para la infraestructura, respuesta de emergencia, y servicios comunitarios. Haga que se escuche su voz y participe en el Censo hoy.
