Changes in our lives related to the pandemic will likely be with us through the end of 2020 and even beyond. The virus has put new financial, social, and emotional burdens on all of us. Maricopa County services may be able to help, whether it’s job or housing assistance; public health guidance; or daily services that allow you to check something off your list.
JOB ASSISTANCE
Arizonans who have lost their jobs because of COVID-19 can find a step-by-step guide on how to apply for unemployment benefits as well as information on current job openings at arizonatogether.org. Maricopa County residents who need assistance can fill out a Job Seeker Inquiry Form through our Human Services Department.

RENTAL ASSISTANCE
The first of the month is just a few days away and we want to help families who are struggling financially stay in their homes. Maricopa County’s eviction protection program offers residents of Maricopa County (outside of the cities of Phoenix and Mesa) up to three months of rent paid plus the possibility of utility assistance.

SCHOOL UPDATE
The Arizona Department of Education is working with the Arizona Department of Health Services to determine benchmarks for schools to reopen for in-person classes. Those benchmarks are expected to be available by the end of next week (8/7). In the meantime, Public Health is consulting with local school districts and providing recommendations tailored to their specific situations. Parents are encouraged to talk with their school or district to learn more about plans for the fall semester.
MARICOPA COUNTY FUNDS COVID-19 TESTING
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved spending CARES Act dollars to support COVID-19 testing sites in areas not served by other providers. While Arizona Department of Health Services is coordinating most of the state’s testing (see list of locations), Maricopa County has partnered with Valle del Sol to provide free COVID-19 tests at several high-need locations in July and August. WHAT TYPE OF TEST SHOULD I GET?
Do you believe you currently have COVID-19? Or are you trying to figure out if you’ve already had it? How you answer determines what kind of test you would get. Here’s the difference:
- Diagnostic tests (usually PCR) help medical providers determine whether a person has evidence of active infection. This testing informs our daily COVID-19 case count.
- Antibody tests, also known as serology tests, look for the presence of antibodies that are made by the body and indicate a recent or past infection; antibody tests are not as helpful for diagnosing active infections.

2020 CENSUS
Have you completed your 2020 Census? There’s still time, if not. An accurate census means Maricopa County will gets its fair share of federal dollars to invest in things like public health, infrastructure, and schools. We want everyone to count so we all benefit!

Ya se acerca el inicio del mes y queremos que las familias que están bajo presión financiera se queden en sus casas. El programa de prevención de desalojo del Condado Maricopa ofrece a los residentes del Condado Maricopa (fuera de Phoenix y Mesa) hasta tres meses de pago de renta además de la posibilidad de cubrir gastos de agua, luz o gas.

Salud Pública ha creado la página web EncuentraAyudaPhx.org para conectar a los residentes con una variedad de servicios gratis o a bajo costo incluyendo servicios de salud mental y física, comida, transportación y cuidado de niños.
ACTUALIZACIONES SOBRE LAS ESCUELAS
El Departamento de Educación de Arizona está trabajando con el Departamento de Servicios de Salud de Arizona para determinar los parámetros o guía para que las escuelas reabran a las clases en persona. Esos parámetros se creen estarán listo para el final del día del 7 de agosto. Mientras tanto, Salud Pública está consultando con distritos escolares locales y dando recomendaciones para situaciones específicas. Los padres deben hablar con sus escuelas para saber más sobre el plan escolar de otoño.
EL CONDADO MARICOPA ESTA USANDO FONDOS PARA BRINDAR PRUEBAS DE COVID-19
La Junta de Supervisores del Condado Maricopa aprobó usar fondos de CARES Act para apoyar los sitios de pruebas de COVID-19 en áreas donde no hay otros proveedores brindando el servicio. El Departamento de Servicios de Salud del Estado es quien coordina la mayoría de los sitios de pruebas del estado, pero el Condado Maricopa se ha asociado a Valle del Sol para proveer pruebas gratuitas de COVID-19 en áreas de alta necesidad entre los meses de julio y agosto. ¿QUÉ TIPO DE PRUEBA SE DEBO DE HACER?
¿Cree usted que tiene COVID-19? O ¿está tratando de saber si ya lo tuvo? Dependiendo de su respuesta eso determinará la prueba que usted necesita. Aquí la diferencia:
· Pruebas de diagnóstico (conocidas como PCR) ayudan al personal médico a determinar si la persona tiene infección activa. Estas pruebas son las que contamos en nuestro reporte de casos diarios de COVID-19.
· Pruebas anticuerpos también conocidos como pruebas de serología, buscan la presencia de anticuerpos hechos por el mismo cuerpo y que indican que recientemente o en el pasado tuvo una infección. Estas pruebas de anticuerpos no ayudan a diagnosticar si la infección está activa al momento.

El Departamento de Control y Cuidado de Animales ha hecho cambios durante la pandemia pero aun así usted todavía puede adoptar perros y gatos, encontrar una mascota perdida o reportar una mascota en la calle.

Se ha emitido un anuncio de alta contaminación para mañana. Haga su parte y maneje lo menos posible, llene su tanque de gasolina después del atardecer, y evite usar la sopladora de jardín. Aquí más consejos.
CENSO 2020
¿Ya participó en el Censo 2020? Aún tiene tiempo. Un conteo correcto significa que el Condado Maricopa recibirá lo que le corresponde en fondos federales para invertir en Salud Pública, infraestructura y escuelas. Queremos que todos cuenten para que todos se beneficien.
