Maricopa County COVID-19 Update

The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and the general public. This is the update for November 3, 2020.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: HAVE YOU VOTED?

There are a few more hours left to vote. You can vote safely at ANY of the County’s 175 Vote Centers. Here’s what you can expect:

• Vote Centers are large enough to allow for six feet of physical distancing
• Poll workers frequently clean high-touch surfaces and sanitize pens after each use.
• Poll workers are required to wear a mask, face shield, and gloves.
• Gloves and masks will be available for voters if they do not bring their own.

Find a location to drop off your early ballot or vote in person until 7 p.m. at Locations.Maricopa.Vote. You can also see estimated wait times for each location.

COVID-19 TRENDS

We continue to see increased community spread of COVID-19. As of October 31, our 7-day rolling average of cases was 724 per day. This is up from 304 per day a month earlier. Hospitalizations related to COVID-19 have increased slightly over that time as well. You can see trends for both case counts and hospitalizations over time at the Maricopa County COVID-19 data dashboard.

CHECK YOUR SYMPTOMS

If you’re having COVID-like symptoms, stay home and away from others. You may also consider getting a COVID-19 test (find testing locations here). Symptoms typically appear 2–14 days after exposure to the virus and can include:

• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea

You can check your symptoms using the CDC Coronavirus Self-Checker tool. Adults over the age of 65 and people of any age with underlying health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease are at higher risk of serious illness due to COVID-19.

DO YOUR PART

While it can feel discouraging to see case counts rising again, your actions do make a difference. Public Health continues to advise the following to protect yourself and others:

• Stay home when you’re sick and whenever possible
• Keep six feet of distance from others
• Wear masks
• Avoid large groups
• Wash your hands frequently and practice good hygiene

Maricopa County offers free COVID-19 testing at locations across the region. Get a test and know within days whether you have the virus.

Free flu shots

Whether you have insurance or not, you can get a free flu shot. Maricopa County is partnering with Valleywise Community Health Center to offer free flu shots all week at the Valleywise site in Guadalupe. This event is open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to all members of the public. You can find details about this event, and all of our free flu vaccine events, at Maricopa.gov/flu.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: SEGURIDAD EN LAS ELECCIONES

Solo quedan unas cuantas horas para votar. Usted puede votar de forma segura en CUALQUIERA de los 175 Centros de Votación. Esto es lo que debe saber:

• Todos los Centros de Votación son los suficientemente amplios para permitir el distancimiento fisico de 6 pies
• Los trabajadores de Centros de Votación frecuentemente limpian y desinfectan plumas despues de cada uso
• Los trabajadores de los Centros de Votación se les requiere usar una mascarilla, caretas faciales y guantes.

REVISE SUS SĺNTOMAS

Si usted tiene síntomas parecidos a los de COVID-19 quédese en casa y alejado de otros. También puede considerar hacerse la prueba de COVID-19. Los síntomas por lo regular se presentan entre 2–14 días después de haber estado expuesto al virus e incluye:

• Fiebre o escalofríos
• Tos
• Falta de aliento o dificultad para respirar
• Fatiga
• Dolor muscular y corporal
• Dolor de cabeza
• Perdida reciente del olfato o sabor
• Dolor de garganta

HAGA SU PARTE

Vacunas de la gripe gratis

Ya sea que tenga o no seguro médico, usted puede ponerse la vacuna gratis.
