Maricopa County COVID-19 Update

The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and general public. This is the update for April 3, 2020. (versión en español abajo)

PHYSICAL DISTANCING
Public health experts recommend at least 6 feet of physical distance.
Here’s another way to look at physical distancing: instead of thinking about how to avoid getting the virus yourself, think about how to ensure you are not one of the people spreading it. In other words, act like you have it. There’s a chance you may be asymptomatic and carrying the virus without knowing it.
MENTAL HEALTH CHECK
This is a stressful time. Don’t diminish what you’re feeling, even if you know someone who has it worse. The CDC recommends these self-care practices:
- Take breaks from screen time
- Take care of your body
- Do activities you enjoy
- Connect with others (from a distance)

COUNTY AGENCIES AT WORK
Animal Care and Control
Our animal shelters have had to make several adjustments to operations to protect public health during the pandemic, but staff is still working hard to make sure homeless pets get what the care they need.
Human Services
Maricopa County can connect qualified residents to programs that help pay utility bills. Utility assistance is available every Monday from 8–10 am in the following communities:
Anthem, Buckeye, Carefree, Cave Creek, Harquehala, New River, Palo Verde, Rainbow Valley, Tonopah, Wintersburg.
Live somewhere else? Many cities and towns have their own assistance programs. See your options by visiting this website.

DISTANCIAMIENTO FISICO
Los expertos de salud pública recomiendan al menos 6 pies de distancia física.
Otra forma de ver el distanciamiento físico: En lugar de enfocarse en como evitar contraer el virus, piense mejor en cómo no propagarlo usted mismo. En otras palabras, actúe como si usted lo tuviera ya que existe la posibilidad de que usted no presente síntomas y sea portador del virus sin saberlo.
CHEQUEO DE SALUD MENTAL
Estos son tiempos estresantes. No oculte lo que usted está sintiendo, aún si usted sabe que hay gente que está en peor situación que la suya. Los Centros de Control y Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés) recomienda poner en práctica lo siguiente:

Cuidado y Control de Animales
Los albergues de animales han tenido que hacer ajustes en sus operaciones para proteger la salud pública durante en la pandemia, pero el personal aún está trabajando para brindar cuidado a las mascotas.

El condado Maricopa conecta a los residentes que no pueden pagar sus recibos de luz, agua, y más, a recursos a su alcance. Existe asistencia que está disponible cada lunes de 8–10am en las siguientes comunidades:
