The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and general public. This is the update for September 14, 2020.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: MARICOPA COUNTY HAS PROVIDED $3.3 MILLION IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE IN TWO MONTHS
There are so many people who have been hit hard financially because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Maricopa County is working to keep individuals and families in their homes during these difficult times. Our COVID Crisis Rental Assistance Program is designed to speed along the process so that people get checks in the mail faster. The program has provided 2,234 months worth of rent payments to families and individuals since July 15, or more than $3.3 million.

ONCE MY CHILD’S SCHOOL MEETS THE RECOMMENDED BENCHMARKS, CAN THEY REOPEN?
The Arizona Department of Health Services developed school reopening benchmarks at the request of the education community as a guide to help school districts determine when it is safe to return to in-person instruction. We know from other countries that reopening schools may be lower risk in communities with lower community transmission, which is why one of the benchmarks is two consecutive weeks with the percentage of positive tests in the community below 7%. School boards and administrators make the final decision about reopening.
Schools that choose to re-open for in-person classes must have a mitigation plan to protect student and staff health. This plan may include modifying classroom layouts to promote physical distancing; regular hand-washing and use of facial coverings; and enhanced cleaning and proper ventilation.
Schools are required to share their mitigation plans on their website prior to offering on-site support services and/or in-person instruction.

WHAT IF I GET COVID-19?
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and you are sent home to recover, you’ll be asked to stay isolated at home to help prevent the disease from spreading to other people in your home and community. Other people you live with and those you had close contact with during the time since you became sick will be asked to take specific actions to quarantine themselves, monitor for symptoms, and prevent further spread to others.
HOW LONG SHOULD I STAY HOME?
The CDC has different guidelines for isolation depending on your medical history, whether you have been tested, and whether you’ve experienced COVID-19 symptoms. Public Health has created a questionnaire to make it easier. Just answer a few simple questions and we’ll tell you how long you should stay home.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: EL CONDADO MARICOPA HA OTORGADO $3.3 MILLONES EN ASISTENCIA DE RENTA EN DOS MESES
Muchas personas se han visto afectadas económicamente por la pandemia de COVID-19. El Condado Maricopa esta trabajando con personas y familiares para que no pierdan sus hogares. Nuestros programas de Asistencia de Renta por COVID está diseñado para que las personas reciban su cheque mucho mas rápido. Este programa ha pagado 2,234 meses de renta para personas y familias desde el 15 de julio, o más de $3.3 millones de dólares.
¿UNA VEZ QUE MI ESCUELA CUMPLA CON LOS REQUISITO O PARÁMETROS, PUEDE REABRIR EL PLANTEL PARA DAR CLASES EN PERSONA?
El Departamento de Servicios de Salud ha desarrollado ciertos parámetros para que sirva de guía a los distritos escolares y determinen cuando deben regresar de forma segura a las clases en persona. Sabemos por otros países que abrir las escuelas en comunidades pueden tener un riesgo más bajo en comunidades donde la transmisión es mas baja, que es uno de los parámetros que se deben seguir por dos semanas con un porcentaje de pruebas positivas menor del 7%. Las juntas escolares y los administradores deben hacer la decisión final de cuando reabrir.
Las escuelas que decidan reabrir a clases en persona deben tener un plan de mitigación para proteger la salud de los estudiantes y del personal. Este plan puede incluir como se mantendrá el distanciamiento físico dentro de las aulas, el lavado de manos frecuentemente y el uso de las mascarillas además de amplia ventilación y limpieza.
A las escuelas se les ha pedido que hagan público su plan de mitigación en su pagina de internet antes de reabrir u ofrecer otros servicios.
¿QUÉ PASA SI ME ENFERMO CON COVID-19?
Si usted ha dado positivo a COVID-19 y se le enviará a casa para recuperarse, se le pedirá que se aislé en su hogar para prevenir que propague la enfermedad a otras personas en su hogar o comunidad. Otras personas que viven en su casa y que tuvieron contacto cercano con usted se les pedirá que tomen acciones especifica de cuarentena, monitoreen los síntomas y prevengan la propagación a otros.
¿CUÁNTO ME DEBO QUEDAR EN CASA?
CDC tiene diferentes guías de aislamiento dependiendo de su historial médico, ya sea que se haya hecho la prueba, o si experimento síntomas de COVID-19. Salud Pública ha creado un cuestionario para hacerlo mas fácil. Solo conteste algunas preguntas y le diremos cuanto tiempo se debe quedar en casa.
