TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: HELP IS AVAILABLE
The pandemic has tested all of us in different ways, from our physical and mental health, to our financial security. We want you to know it’s okay to ask for help, and there are many resources available at the state and local levels to assist families, individuals, and business owners
Arizonatogether.org has support for people who have lost jobs, are struggling to pay rent or other bills, or who aren’t sure where they’ll get their next meal.
Maricopa County Public Health has compiled a list of free and nearly free services at FindHelpPHX.org. Your city or town may offer support as well. Remember: we are in this together, and you are not alone.
COMING SOON: MORE SMALL BUSINESS GRANTS!
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved funding to expand a small business grant program to serve more local businesses and non-profits experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These grants, paid for through federal CARES Act dollars, will provide up to $25,000 in reimbursements for business losses incurred between March and June. Applications for the new round of grants will be accepted starting Monday, August 17. Details about how to apply will be available soon.
SOMEONE IN MY HOUSE HAS COVID-19. HOW CAN I PREVENT THE VIRUS FROM SPREADING TO OTHERS IN THE HOME?
Have the person with COVID-19 stay in one room, away from other people, as much as possible. Have them use a separate bathroom, if possible. In addition, caregivers and others who must interact with the patient should:
- Avoid sharing personal household items, like dishes, towels, and bedding
- Wear masks or face coverings around the infected person, and maintain distance as much as possible
- Regularly clean and disinfect all surfaces that are touched often, like counters, tabletops, sink handles, light switches, and doorknobs

WHO SHOULD NOT USE CLOTH FACE COVERINGS?
While the vast majority of people can wear masks safely for a long period of time, there are some members of our community who should not wear cloth face coverings.
People who should not wear masks are:
- Children under age 2
- Anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING
July was the hottest on record in Phoenix, and August is bringing more of the same. An excessive heat warning took effect today, and high temperatures above 113 degrees are expected for much of the next week. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, limit your time outside, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.

COUNTY AGENCIES AT WORK
Elections and Recorder’s Office
All the ballots in the August Primary Election have now been counted and verified. On Friday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will be asked to canvass the election. The canvass certifies that all ballots cast are accounted for and ensures that every valid vote cast is included in the final election results.
Environmental Services
Restaurants are operating in new ways because of the pandemic. One thing that hasn’t changed? Maricopa County Environmental Services Department is still conducting restaurant inspections to make sure the food being served is safe to eat and restaurants are complying with the food code.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: EXISTE AYUDA DISPONIBLE
La pandemia ha venido a probarnos a todos de diferentes maneras, desde la salud física y mental hasta la seguridad financiera. Queremos que sepa que existe ayuda financiera, y existen muchos recursos a nivel estatal o local para asistir a familias, individuos o dueños de negocios.
Arizona Unido brinda apoyo a las personas que perdieron su trabajo, que están teniendo dificultad para pagar la renta u otros pagos de la casa o que no saben cómo pondrán alimentos en su mesa.
Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa cuenta con una lista de recursos y servicios gratis o casi gratis en www.EncuentraAyudaPhx.org. También su ciudad pudiera ofrecerle recursos. Recuerde que estamos juntos en esto, no estamos solos.
LOS FONDOS PARA PEQUEÑOS NEGOCIOS SE EXTIENDEN
La Junta de Supervisores del Condado Maricopa ha aprobado expandir fondos para negocios pequeños para ayudar a negocios locales y agencias no lucrativas que están experimentando tiempos difíciles por la pandemia COVID-19. Estos fondos del gobierno federal, CARES Act, proveerá hasta $25,000 en reembolso para negocios que han tenido pérdidas desde marzo a junio. Se empezarán aceptar solicitudes para estos nuevos fondos el lunes, 17 de agosto.
SI EN MI CASA ALGUIEN TIENE COVID-19, ¿CÓMO PUEDO PREVENIR QUÉ EL VIRUS SE PROPAGUE A OTROS EN MI CASA?
Permita que la persona con COVID-19 se quede en un solo cuarto, alejado de otros lo más que se pueda. Deje que usen un baño separado de ser posible. Además, las personas que cuidan y quienes interactúan con el paciente deben:
· Evitar compartir artículos personales como platos, toallas, ropa de cama
· Usar mascarillas o coberturas faciales cuando están con la persona infectada, y manteniendo distancia lo más que se pueda.
· Limpiar y desinfectar regularmente las superficies que se tocan frecuentemente como mesas, manijas, llaves del agua, y enchufes y dispositivos para prender la luz.

¿QUIÉN NO DEBE USAR LA MASCARILLA O CUBIERTAS FACIALES?
Aunque la mayoría de las personas pueden usar la mascarilla de manera segura por un tiempo prolongado, existen personas que no deberían usar las mascarillas de tela.
Personas que no deben usar mascarillas:
· Niños menores de 2 años
· Cualquiera que tenga problemas respiratorios, personas que están inconscientes, incapacitadas o que no puedan quitarse la mascarilla por si solos.

Julio es el mes más caliente en la historia en Phoenix, y Agosto parece que será igual. Una advertencia de calor extremo esta en vigor desde hoy y las altas temperaturas, arriba de 113 grados, se esperan hasta la próxima semana. AGENCIAS DEL CONDADO A SU SERVICIO
Oficina de Elecciones y Registro
Todas las boletas de la Elección Primaria de agosto han sido contado y verificadas. El viernes, se pedirá a la Junta de Supervisores del Condado Maricopa que realicen el sondeo de la elección. El sondeo certifica que todos las boletas emitidas sean contadas y garantiza que todos los votos válidos emitidos se incluyan en los resultados finales de la elección.
Servicios Ambientales
Los restaurantes están operando de una nueva forma por la pandemia. Lo que no ha cambiado es que el Departamento de Servicios Ambientales está realizando inspecciones a los restaurantes para asegurarse que la comida que se sirve es segura y los restaurantes están dentro del código de alimentos.

No pierda la oportunidad de hacer que se escuche su voz y ayude a su comunidad a regresar mucho más fuerte. Participe en el Censo 2020. Es su deber cívico, y es importante para que Arizona reciba lo que le corresponde en fondos para la infraestructura, respuesta de emergencia y servicios comunitarios.
