The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and the general public. This is the update for June 15, 2020.

· 19,293 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County; 10% hospitalized; 2% ICU
· We have a demographic breakdown of cases and hospitalizations here.

VENTURING OUT
There is increased community spread in Maricopa County. While many public places are open, you should consider limiting your social interactions to the extent possible.

GUIDANCE FOR MASKS
Protective cloth face masks are really about giving people more freedom, rather than less. As COVID-19 spreads in our community, well-fitting masks can help protect people when they can’t maintain six feet of distance from others. There is mounting evidence that masks protect both the person wearing the mask and those around the mask wearer.

UPDATE ON CONTACT TRACING
Local health departments are responsible for tracking the spread of COVID-19 and alerting residents to risk. Maricopa County Public Health has been doing contact tracing and disease investigation since the very first case of COVID-19 in our community in late January, and the department continues to expand its capacity with additional staff and partnerships to conduct case investigations and contact tracing.

Maricopa County has many resources available for people who need help during the pandemic. Public Health’s COVID-19 page has detailed guidance for individuals, families, schools, businesses, long-term care facilities, and more. Our Human Services Department connects people with career services, financial assistance, early education, and in-home adult and senior services. Prefer to speak to someone directly? The Air Quality Department is using technology to save time and money while continuing to respond to alerts at air quality monitoring stations around the Valley.

You can still adopt a dog or cat, find a lost pet, report a stray, or get your required dog license at our west animal shelter.

Los departamentos de salud locales son responsables de darle seguimiento a los casos de COVID-19 que están en la comunidad y alertar a los residentes del riesgo. Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa ha estado dando seguimiento a los casos de COVID-19 desde el primer caso a finales de enero, y el departamento continua expandiendo la capacidad contratando más personal y haciendo nuevas asociaciones para conducir las investigaciones de los casos positivos y así darles seguimiento.
