The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and general public. This is the update for May 15, 2020.
LATEST INFORMATION
- 6,681 total confirmed COVID-19 cases. Hospital admission rate= 13%. ICU admission rate= 4%
- Increased availability of testing has led to an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County. However, the percentage of positive cases requiring hospitalization has been steadily dropping, indicating more people with mild illness are getting tested.

TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: COVID-19 CAN SPREAD QUICKLY. KEEP DOING YOUR PART TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTH AND THE HEALTH OF AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS.
It’s the first weekend without a “Stay Home” order in six weeks, but physical distancing and other preventive measures are still crucial to limit the spread of COVID-19. This video is a reminder of how the disease can spread:
BE HEALTHY, BE RESPONSIBLE
Adults age 65+ and/or people with serious underlying medical conditions are at the highest risk of severe illness from COVID-19, but anyone can get infected (see data). That’s why Public Health advises all residents to take the following precautions when out in public:
- Stay at least six feet away from others.
- Consider wearing a cloth face covering if you cannot maintain at least six feet of distance between yourself and others while out.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- When leaving, use hand sanitizer.
- When home, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
BUSINESS GUIDANCE
We know business owners and employers want to reopen the right way, keeping employee and customer safety at the forefront. Maricopa County Public Health provides guidance and information to businesses online while the Environmental Services Department (which inspects and regulates restaurants, public pools, and spas) has a COVID-19 Resources page that may be useful as well.
JOB ASSISTANCE
The Maricopa County Human Services Department is providing job assistance through our career centers. You can access resources or get one-on-one guidance virtually or in-person, by appointment. HELP FOR AT-RISK POPULATIONS
Maricopa County and its partners are working to get high-risk populations off the streets and into safer spaces in order to protect their health, and community health, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort includes finding rooms and beds where people have access to food, clothing, and medical care.
PPE DONATION WAREHOUSE CHANGE
The county donation center where people can drop off personal protective equipment is changing its hours of operation. The donation warehouse will be open to accept donations BY APPOINTMENT ONLY Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. To arrange a drop off time, please call 602–506–6767.
COUNTY OPERATIONS UPDATE
Maricopa County is following public health guidance as it considers when and how to reopen county government facilities. Over the past few months, many customer service counters have been closed, a significant portion of the county workforce has been teleworking, and the county has been making more services accessible to the public online or remotely. With the “Stay Home” order lifted, county leaders are planning a safe, slow return of the workforce, with more details to be released in the coming weeks.
COUNTY AGENCIES AT WORK
Board of Supervisors
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will vote on the fiscal year 2021 budget on Monday. The budget includes federal CARES Act funding meant to help communities respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sheriff’s Office
On National Peace Officers Day, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office held a virtual “They Served Well” ceremony honoring fallen law enforcement officers. MCSO lost Detention Officer Gene “Jim” Lee last year.
Public Health
Staying up to date on immunizations is important way to protect your child’s health. Our clinics are now taking appointments to allow for social distancing. Adults and kids over 2 are asked to wear a cloth face covering when coming to their appointment. Please call 602–506–6767 to schedule or visit maricopa.gov/immunizations.

MANTÉNGASE SALUDABLE Y SEA RESPONSABLE
Los adultos mayores de 65 años y/o personas con condiciones médicas serias están en más alto riesgo de enfermedad severa de COVID-19, pero recuerde cualquiera se puede infectar. Salud Pública le aconseja a todos los residentes que sigan las siguientes precauciones cuando estén en público:
- Manténgase al menos seis pies de distancia de otros.
- Considere usar una mascarilla o cubre bocas si es que no puede permanecer a seis pies de distancia entre usted y otros mientras esta fuera.
- Evita tocar los ojos, nariz o boca.
- Cuando salga lleve desinfectante de manos.
- Cuando este en casa, lávese las manos con agua y jabón por al menos 20 segundos.
GUĺA PARA LOS NEGOCIOS
Sabemos que los propietarios de negocios y empleadores quieren reabrir inmediatamente manteniendo la seguridad de los empleados y de los clientes en mente. ASISTENCIA DE TRABAJO

CAMBIO EN EL CENTRO DE DONACIÓN DE EQUIPO DE PROTECCIÓN PERSONAL

ACTUALIZACIONES DE LAS OPERACIONES DEL CONDADO
El condado Maricopa está siguiendo la guía de salud pública a como considera cuando y donde se reabren las oficinas del gobierno del condado Maricopa. En los meses pasado, sitios de servicio al clientes han estado cerrados, un gran porcentaje de la fuerza laboral está trabajando desde casa, y el condado también ha puesto servicios más accesibles en línea. Con la orden de Quédese en Casa que ya expira, los líderes del condado están trabajando en un plan seguro para que la fuerza laboral regrese a sus labores poco a poco. Junta de Supervisores
La Junta de Supervisores del Condado Maricopa votará sobre el presupuesto fiscal 2021 este lunes. El presupuesto incluye fondos provenientes del llamado CARES Act que son fondos para asistir a comunidades que están respondiendo a la pandemia de COVID-19.
La Oficina del Sheriff
Este día nacional de Recordación de Oficiales de la Paz, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Maricopa llevó a cabo una ceremonia virtual llamada “Trabajo Bien Hecho” para honrar a los oficiales de la ley caídos. El Departamento del Sheriff del Condado Maricopa perdió al oficial Gene “Jim” Lee el año pasado.
Salud Pública
Mantenerse al día con las vacunas de sus hijos es importante para proteger su salud. Pero antes de acudir haga su cita porque se requiere para mantener el distanciamiento social.
