The Maricopa County Joint Information Center is providing daily COVID-19 updates for members of the media and the general public. This is the update for July 24, 2020.

WHERE CAN I GET TESTED?

• Maricopa County has partnered with Valle del Sol to provide free COVID-19 tests at several high-need locations in July and August. Follow us on Facebook @maricopacountyaz for details as new locations are announced.
• Most testing is being coordinated through health care providers and the Arizona Department of Health Services. See a list of ADHS testing sites here.
• ADHS surge testing continues with thousands of free COVID-19 testing appointments still available. Appointment times and registration links can be found online at gov/SurgeTesting.

WHO SHOULD GET TESTED?

Testing is an important part of the puzzle as we try to slow the spread of COVID-19, but you might wonder if you need to get tested. Maybe you’re not sure about your symptoms, or maybe you don’t want to deal with the potential of long lines or delays in getting back test results.

Here’s the bottom line when it comes to testing:

If you have COVID-like symptoms or have been around someone with COVID-like symptoms, you should get a diagnostic test and stay away from others until you know your results.

Remember: you don’t have to feel sick to test positive for COVID-19. An estimated 40% of positive COVID-19 cases are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. Those people are still able to pass COVID-19 to others, and the people they expose can have more severe symptoms.

So think about who you’ve been around and what exposure you may have had. If there’s any doubt, get tested.

6 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT GETTING OR SPREADING COVID 19

COVID-19 spreads mainly from person-to-person when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks and droplets land in the mouth or nose of others nearby.

It is less likely to be spread by a person touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, although studies have found that COVID-19 tends to live longer on harder surfaces such as plastic, glass, and metal.

Regardless of how it spreads, here are six ways to protect yourself and others:

1. Cover your mouth and nose with a face covering
2. Keep 6 feet apart from others outside your household
3. Wash or sanitize your hands frequently
4. Avoid large gatherings and crowds
5. Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces (countertops, doorknobs) frequently
6. Avoid sharing items (drinking glasses, utensils)

These are broadcast live to Facebook and YouTube and shared in our daily email updates. On Wednesday, Maricopa County Public Health outlined its recommendations for schools in the coming year.

LATEST STATEWIDE ACTIONS

At yesterday’s press conference, Governor Ducey announced the following statewide actions:

• Extended closure of gyms, bars, movie theaters, and water parks
• Basic framework for the upcoming school year, including additional funding and public health benchmarks for reopening to be announced by August 7

Human Services

Maricopa County is working to prevent evictions by offering a new rental assistance program for residents outside of the cities of Phoenix and Mesa who have been impacted by the COVID-19 emergency. The program would offer as many as 6,000 households up to three months of rent. The program is funded through the federal CARES Act.

¿QUIÉN SE DEBE HACER LA PRUEBA DE COVID-19?

Las pruebas son parte importante del rompecabezas para reducir la propagación de COVID-19, pero muchos se preguntaran, ¿acaso me debo hacer la prueba? A lo mejor no está seguro sobre los síntomas, o no quiere lidiar con las largas líneas o retrasos para recibir los resultados.

Esto es lo importante a saber:

Si tiene síntomas parecidos a los de COVID-19 o ha estado alrededor de alguien con síntomas de COVID-19, debe hacerse la prueba de diagnóstico y quedarse en casa alejado de otros hasta que le lleguen los resultados.

Recuerde: no se tiene que sentir enfermo para dar positivo a COVID-19. Se estima un 40% de los resultados positivos de COVID-19 son asintomáticos o pre sintomático. Esas personas aún pueden contagiar COVID-19 a otros, y las personas que han estado expuestas pudieran tener síntomas severos.

Así que piense quien ha estado cerca de usted, y si estuvo expuesto. Si tiene dudas, hágase la prueba.

6 COSAS QUE USTED PUEDE HACER PARA PREVENIR CONTAGIARSE O PROPAGAR COVID-19

COVID-19 se transmite principalmente de persona en persona cuando alguien está infectado tose, estornuda o habla y gotas que se desechan caen en la boca o nariz de otras personas cercanas.

Es menos propenso de propagarse cuando una persona toca superficies u objetos donde está el virus, aunque estudios han encontrado que COVID-19 tiende a vivir más tiempo en áreas duras como plástico, vidrio y metal.

Sin importar como se propaga, aquí tiene 6 maneras de protegerse usted y lo demás:

1. Cúbrase la boca y nariz con una mascarilla o cubierta facial

2. Mantenga 6 pies de distancia cuando este fuera de casa

3. Lávese las manos o use desinfectante de manos frecuentemente

4. Evite reuniones grandes

5. Limpie y desinfecte superficies que son utilizadas frecuentemente (mesas, manijas, puertas)

6. Evite compartir objetos (vasos, utensilios)

ACCIONES RECIENTES A NIVEL ESTATAL

En la conferencia de prensa de ayer, el Gobernador Ducey anuncio las siguientes acciones estatales:

· Extender el cierre de gimnasios, bares, cines, parques acuáticos

· Guía básica de cómo se perfila el próximo año escolar, incluyendo fondos adicionales y parámetros de Salud Pública para el anuncio de reapertura que se dará el 7 de agosto.

EN CASO DE QUE SE LO HAYA PERDIDO: ACTUALIZACIONES DEL COMANDO UNIFICADO ESTA SEMANA

El Comando Unificado del Condado Maricopa realiza conferencias de prensa para actualizar a los miembros de los medios como el público sobre cómo responde el Condado a la pandemia. Estas se transmiten en vivo por Facebook y YouTube y se comparten por correo electrónico. El miércoles, Salud Pública del Condado Maricopa dio a conocer recomendaciones para las escuelas, esto a como se aproxima el ciclo escolar.

Servicios Humanos

El Condado Maricopa está trabajando para prevenir desalojos y está ofreciendo un programa de asistencia de renta o alquiler para personas que viven fuera de Phoenix y Mesa que han sido impactados por la pandemia de COVID-19. El programa pudiera asistir hasta 6000 familias con pagos de renta de hasta por tres meses. Este programa usa fondos del gobierno federal de CARES Act.
