TODAY’S KEY MESSAGE: YOUR DECISIONS MATTER

Your decisions matter. Every contact you have with others puts you at more risk to make yourself sick or spread COVID-19 to your friends, family, and members of your community. These choices could be the difference between a school staying open for in-person learning or not, between a business being able to keep its doors open or not, between our health care workers being able to provide the best care for patients or not. Let’s come together as a community to protect each other.

LAYERS OF PROTECTION

Home is the safest place to be as cases rise in our community. Limit in-person social gatherings and outings. When you do go out, make sure to wear a mask and keep six feet of distance from those outside your household. Just like sandwiches are better with multiple layers, you get more benefit from multiple layers of protection. A mask and social distancing combined are better than either one alone, and your protection is even stronger when you add other layers.

PUBLIC HEALTH’S ROLE IN THE PANDEMIC

When there’s an outbreak of a communicable disease, Public Health’s role is to collect data, analyze that data, and make recommendations to members of the public, healthcare providers, and policy makers for how to stop the spread of the disease. Much of that data, and many of those recommendations, can be found at Maricopa.gov/COVID19. Public Health does not make policy.

DO I NEED A COVID-19 TEST?

If you have COVID-like symptoms, you should get tested right away. If you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus, but you’re not experiencing symptoms, testing is recommended any time between day 7 and day 14 after exposure.

Here are two free options if you need to get a COVID-19 test:

• Maricopa County events: Public Health and its partners offer free COVID-19 tests to anyone, regardless of whether they’re insured or not. You don’t have to have symptoms to get tested. See a list of times and locations at Maricopa.gov/COVID19Testing.
• ADHS events: · Arizona Department of Health Services recently partnered with ASU to offer free, saliva-based tests in the Phoenix area. Results come back within 48 hours. Find more information here.

IF YOU TEST POSITIVE

If you test positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted by Maricopa County Public Health, possibly via text message. The text will include a survey that will help us begin your case investigation. Make sure to provide up-to-date contact information when getting tested. If we are unable to get in touch with you, we will not be able to assist in alerting your close contacts about their exposure to COVID-19, which could mean a greater chance of the virus spreading to others. This is especially important at a time of increased transmission of COVID-19.

FLU PROTECTION: GIVE IT A SHOT

We have a shot to ease the burden on our healthcare system and keep people out of the hospital this flu season, but it’s going to take a community-wide commitment. Now is a great time to get vaccinated for influenza, especially if you are planning any holiday gatherings. You can find a list of free flu vaccine events, plus FAQ’s, at Maricopa.gov/flu.

MENSAJE DEL DĺA: SUS DECISIONES HACEN LA DIFERENCIA

Sus decisiones importan. Cada contacto que usted tenga con otros lo pone en riesgo de enfermarse con COVID-19 o propagarlo a otros como sus amigos, familiares y miembros de la comunidad. Estas decisiones pueden hacer la diferencia entre que una escuela se mantenga abierta para la enseñanza en persona o no, entre que un negocio mantenga sus puertas abiertas o no, entre que un trabajador de la salud pueda proveer cuidado médico a los pacientes o no. Esta pandemia sigue, para algunos sigue siendo de vida o muerte. Por favor actue a la altura de la ocasión y tome decisiones que beneficien a todos.

CAPAS DE PROTECCIÓN

Su hogar es el lugar más seguro a como siguen subiendo los casos en nuestra comunidad. Haga su parte y limite las reuniones y salidas sociales. Cuando salga, asegúrese de usar una mascarilla y mantener el distanciamiento de seis pies de otros que no son de su casa. Así como el sándwich es más sabroso con capas de condimentos, así también es de más beneficio tener múltiples capas de protección. EL ROL DE SALUD PÚBLICA DURANTE LA PANDEMIA

¿NECESITO HACERME UNA PRUEBA DE COVID-19?

Si tiene síntomas de COVID-19, debe hacerse la prueba inmediatamente. Si usted ha estado expuesto a alguien infectado con el virus, pero no está experimentando síntomas, las pruebas se recomienda hacerse entre los días 7 al 14 después de haber estado expuesto.

PROTECCIÓN CONTRA LA GRIPE: ARREMÁNGUESE Y VACÚNESE

Tenemos una oportunidad de ayudar al sistema de salud y mantener a las personas fuera del hospital esta época contra la gripe, pero requiere de todos a nivel comunitario.
