Every day activities can affect our air and make it harder for us to breathe. The average adult takes in 15 breaths per minutes. For those who have asthma or another respiratory ailment, every breath is a struggle. Breathing air that is not clean makes matters worse.

In the winter, an increase in wood-burning creates more pollution, but Maricopa County has the most high pollution advisories during the summer because of the heat. Sunlight mixes with pollutants to create more ground-level ozone.

Ozone High Pollution Advisories explained

Year-round there are plenty of easy changes we can make to reduce pollution:

  1. Convert your fireplace to a cleaner burning one.

2. Trade in your gas-powered lawn mower for an electric or battery-powered lawn mower.

3. Carpool, use public transportation or bike to work.
